chocolate tree dreams.

i found this wonderful recipe for chocolate christmas trees in the Australian Womens Weekly that look to die for….or at the very least a sugar coma….

1 cup (160g) sultanas

1 cup roasted almonds, roughly chopped

200g dark cooking chocolate, roughly chopped

395g can sweetened condensed milk

80g unsalted butter

200g milk cooking chocolate, roughly chopped

2 x 500g store bought mudcakes

100g milk melts, melted (large choc buds)

1 tbsp icing sugar

Cut 7 x 20cm diameter circles from baking baker. Cut in half. Roll each into a tight cone and use tape to hold shape. Spray inside cones with cooking oil.

Combine sultanas and almonds in a small bowl.

Combine dark chocolate, half of the condensed milk and half the butter in a medium heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Cook, stirring, for 3 – 4 mins or until smooth. Stir in half of the fruit & nut mixture. Then quickly divide the mixture between half the cones – using a wooden skewer to push mixture to the tips.

Then repeat process using milk chocolate and remaining condensed milk, butter, fruit and nut mixtures. Divide between remaining cones. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours (or overnight).

Using bought mudcakes remove icing and trim until 4cm high. Cut 14 x 4.5cm rounds from cakes.

Remove chocolate cones from paper. Secure cones to each cake using meted chocolate. Dust with icing sugar.
